WHO WE ARE

Cassie Catchpole, festival organiser, has worked in street performance for 10 years travelling all over the world with The Grand Theatre of Lemmings.  She walks on stilts, dresses up as King Kong and tours a tiny caravan theatre around England! Brightlingsea might know her work with George the Bookworm – he’s very famous with 5 years olds!

Cassie is working with Executive Producer, Mandy Rose, who was one of the original pioneers of street theatre with The Grand Theatre of Lemmings.  She is a tour de force, a magnificent creature, and a producer extraordinaire! Mandy is bringing her experience to the event, making sure it’s a smooth operation.

FAF also has the wonderful Matt Jewson, Associate Producer, on the team. Matt is taking charge of all things community! Having worked for The Mercury Theatre in Colchester as Engagement Producer, and living in Brightlingsea, he’s perfect for the job and we’re very lucky to have him.

ANNE SCHWEGMANN FIELDING - MOSAIC

Passionate about the transformation of old into new, Anne gives unwanted objects a second skin by process of adornment. She creates unique sculptures, panels and installations using predominantly recycled and waste materials. Artefacts donated by clients are often incorporated into the works.

ARTIZANI - GIANT LOBSTER TAKE OVER!

Artizani are experts in creating outdoor arts, they don’t just put art on the streets, they make art for the streets.

This is a giant lobster take over! As evolutionists predicted, the new master of the planet has risen from the seas. This 5 meter high lobster is a surreal and endearing walkabout with huge impact.  Riding in a cart pulled by a charismatic character; the inflatable lobster is a sight to behold.

BLACK EAGLES - ACROBATIC TROUPE

A troupe of totally stunning acrobats from Tanzania, now based in the UK. Set to lively African music, the show progresses through a series of powerful and graceful acrobatic, circus and dance routines.

A high impact, joyful show that will have people gasping in amazement.

Very highly recommended.

CIRCO RUM BA BA - THE PIRATES MISADVENTURE (children’s show)

Circo Rum Ba Ba invite you to cast off your shoes and squeeze into its true-to-life 50ft (18m) inflatable Sperm Whale. Enclosed in a lobster-net fence and guarded by a nosy Fish Wife, brave swashbucklers are lead into its belly, revealing a lavishly decorated seascape interior. Once inside they encounter a shipwrecked Pirate with a treasure tale to tell and a real live Mermaid with a haunting siren’s song and an intriguing secret.

JANE STEWART- ARTS AND CRAFTS IN THE BEACH HUT

Craft workshop where participants get to make their own crabbing line and bag from organic twine and hessian. A workshop with an ecological focus, drawing attention to unfriendly materials that can find their way into our oceans.

LEMMINGS THEATRE - THE COD CHOIR

Having pioneered street theatre and the art of interactive, mischievous, and sometimes wayward performance, The Grand Theatre of Lemmings continue to be front-runners in this field with unique results such as our all singing cod choir!

Deep sea fishermen dripping with water and displaying their latest catch of horribly real cod! The cod perform terrible sea shanties and cheesy fish jokes, bringing delight to all those who stumble upon them. It’s pure nautical nonsense and not on stilts
for a change.

MR WILSON’S SECOND LINERS - RAVE FUNERAL WITHOUT THE BODY
NEW ORLEANS MEETS 90’S CLUB CLASSICS

In New Orleans, funerals are celebrated in style, with noisy brass bands processing through the streets. The main section of the parade is known as First Line, but the real fun starts with the Second Line, those who follow the band to enjoy the music, marching with the musicians and twirling parasols or waving handkerchiefs.

Welcome to Second Lining.

SAND IN YOUR EYE - SAND SCULPTURE ARTIST

Sand In Your Eye first started making sand sculptures over 15 years ago and create inspirational and fun artwork that will make you laugh and think, shout out in amazement, and perhaps even shed a tear.

At FAF, they will be creating a one tonne sand sculpture outside the Sailing Club! But what will they make? Dolphins swimming, a giant crab?  Come and find out!

STREETS WITH ATTITUDE

A Contemporary Street show, combining Skateboarding, juggling, theatre, music and live painting in a very special extravagant touch. A surrealistic Comedy about a woman that searches for the meaning of her life, with the participation of the local community of skateboarders and neighbours. Suitable for everyone!

JELLY ROLLERS - THE DRAGON

A mechanical curiosity, a 13ft high mechanical dragon of great age and cantankerous nature. This marvel of grime and grease is a hand cranked mechanical wonder. The fearless and curious are invited to step forward and turn the half-dozen handles which animate the dragon via a variety of cranks and chains, resulting in a grand display of hand cranked contraptioneering.
